RSI - Repetitive Stress Injury

Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI is one of the hazards that people who use the computers face. This injury results from the use of the computer keyboard and mouse. This can occur even if you are young and physically fit. In worse cases, there are people who had to leave their careers or become disabled and unable to do tasks like dressing themselves or driving. However, this condition can easily be prevented with good posture and ergonomics. Proper typing technique and posture, the right equipment setup and good work habits can surely help you prevent it. The use of ergonomic gadgets like an adjustable computer keyboard tray can also help.

According to research, that it is better to position the monitor lower and farther away from you. The chair and keyboard should be set so that the thighs and forearms are of the same level. The wrists should be straight and not bent far down or way back. Symptoms include: recurring pain or soreness in neck, shoulders, wrists, upper back and hands; loss of grip strength, lack of endurance, weakness; muscles in the arms and shoulders feel hard and wiry when palpated; and, pain or numbness while lying in bed.
